LiteFX::Rendering::PipelineBindingHint::ShaderStageHint¶
Defines a hint that is used to mark additional a binding as used by certain shader stages.
Synopsis¶
Declared in <litefx/rendering_api.hpp>
struct ShaderStageHint;
Description¶
Shader stages are set on the descriptor set, so the binding register for this hint is ignored. If specified, this hint causes shader stages that are not found in shader reflection to be included in the shader stage mask. Usually reflection leaves out shader stages that a descriptor set is not bound to, as this can improve performance. However, if a descriptor set can be re-used between compatible pipeline layouts, shader reflection may be unable to tell which shader stages the descriptor set is actually accessed from. In those scenarios, additional stages can be provided using this hint.
In the DirectX 12 backend, shader stages aren't actually masked. Rather a binding is only accessible to a single shader stage, or all shader stages. However, in Vulkan this can be specified with finer granularity.
